ClassesAt times California requires participation in, or the completion of, a class before it will reinstate a driving privilege. An alcohol class is required whenever anyone has a conviction for a DUI, which is commonly referred to as drunk driving. Classes can be from a few months to several years in duration. The most common problem stems from the failure to complete an 18 month program. If a person has at least two DUIs within a 10 year period, he or she must complete the program in order to reinstate full privileges. In some circumstances a restricted or partial license can be obtained while the class is in progress. Usually this restriction is limited to a vehicle with an interlock device. The driver must blow into the device and if alcohol is detected the device will not allow the vehicle to operate. If you now live outside of California it might be possible to have the class requirement waived based on your out-of-state residence. If you would like to apply for such a waiver, click here. |
